Literature Database

A searchable bibliography of scientific publications on Melastomataceae: taxonomy, systematics, ecology, evolution and conservation.

The index currently holds 173 publications, each with its authors, year, journal and DOI where one exists. It covers the taxonomic literature in which the family was described and revised, alongside modern molecular phylogenetic and ecological work.

How this index is built

Metadata is harvested from Crossref and supplemented by manual curation for taxonomic revisions, which are frequently published in venues that are poorly indexed or predate the DOI system. Where a publication records the species it treats, those taxa are linked back to their species pages, so a species record shows the literature that documents it.

What this index is and is not

This is a finding aid, not a full-text repository. We record what a paper is, who wrote it and where it was published; we do not reproduce the papers themselves. Follow the DOI or the publisher link to read the work, and observe the publisher's terms of use when you do.

Where the data comes from

Accepted names and authorship are reconciled against Plants of the World Online (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) and Tropicos (Missouri Botanical Garden). Occurrence records come from GBIF. DNA sequences come from NCBI GenBank. Conservation assessments come from the IUCN Red List, and publication metadata from Crossref. Every record keeps its original identifier so it can be traced back to the dataset it came from.
